Shaoxing intermediate court is the judicial organ of the state. Its main responsibilities are to hear various cases of first instance, second instance, appeal, retrial, commutation of sentence, parole, state compensation and execution within the jurisdiction according to law. In 2013, the Municipal Intermediate Court, under the supervision of the Municipal People's Congress and its Standing Committee and the guidance of the higher courts, and with the care and support of the municipal government, the Municipal Association and all sectors of society, faithfully performed the duties entrusted by the Constitution and laws, and made new progress in various work. The courts in the city received 91259 new cases of various types and closed 89791 cases, up 9.4% and 9.25% over the previous year.
